Understanding Requirements
Before installation, we inspected the yard near the warehouse where the cantilever racks had to be installed. Initially, they were planned to be installed on a blacktop surface. However, installation without a concrete foundation was impossible because the racks’ weight with the loads was enormous. So, we had to have another company we worked with pour concrete foundations to anchor the cantilever. And that’s one of the services provided by our team if someone wants to put up a cantilever.
Choosing the Right Cantilever Racks
Cantilever racks come in various types based on load capacity:
- Super Heavy-duty Cantilever Racks: Handle extremely heavy loads of up to 20,000 pounds per arm.
- Heavy-duty Cantilever Racks: Support loads around 10,000 pounds per arm.
- Standard Duty Cantilever Racks: Have a capacity range of 1,500 to 4,000 pounds per arm.
- Medium Duty Cantilever Racks: Designed for lighter loads, such as aluminum sheets and drywall, with a capacity range of 500 to 1,500 pounds per arm.
For GTS Interior Supply, we installed structural cantilever racks with a capacity of 2,000 pounds per arm, ideal for their heavy loads.
Implementation
Cantilever racks are available: roll-formed and structural, single- and double-sided. Roll-formed racks are made from lighter-gauge steel and are suited for lighter loads, with easy assembly using boltless pin connectors. In contrast, structural racks, made from heavier-gauge steel through hot-rolling, offer greater flexibility and higher weight capacity. For GTS, we installed single-sided structural cantilever racks, 16 feet tall, with two arm levels. This setup provided the necessary strength for their heavy-duty storage needs.
Permitting and Installation
An essential part of the project was managing the permitting process.
