Description of Processes
Understanding Requirements
Our client, Levi’s Sawmill Services, started as a small milling operation and now owns and operates a 12-acre site in beautiful La Pine, Oregon. It needed to build and implement efficient storage—namely cantilever racks. However, there was a moment. Cantilever racks should only be from the domestic manufacturer. That was the grant’s restriction – last year the company was awarded a Wood Innovation Grant administrated by the US Forest Service.
Project to-do List
What part of the work have we accomplished?
- Supplied the materials and coordinated the delivery.
- Did around 69 sections of the domestic cantilever manufacturer.
- Assisted the client during the installation with additional guidance because he wanted to install on his own, but the installment crew he hired needed counseling.
- Counseled about the OSHA inspection.
- And finally, we provided additional signage for the customer’s contractor.
Implementation
In this project, we implemented the structural style cantilever racks. They were designed to be single and double-sided for 4 arms per column with a maximum seismic load uniform armload of 1500 LBS per arm. Thanks to it, our client increased storage per lineal foot and now easily loads on or off arms by forklift. Thus, this heavy-duty lumber rack system maintains efficient storage and organization of material handling. You can see how it works in our video below.
Finalization
Since Speedrack West managers are always on call, it didn’t take long to discuss all the details, prices, and lead time. It took a couple of months from contract signing to implementation. This is very quick. As we remember, we knew nothing about the grant’s restrictions at that point. So for this project, we needed to switch to the domestic manufacturer’s products as soon as possible.
