Understanding Requirements
Our client is a company that has a huge warehouse footprint. They contacted us about safety inspections for their warehouses. Initially, we did a consultative walkthrough, following which, we agreed on the detailed advanced inspection. It was the big piece of the inspection, which lasted four days. Two of our managers, Greg and Ron, checked the entire racking system part by part. Thus, we signed a contract to replace all damaged materials in storage areas and completed it.
Racking Systems Evaluation
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) obliges businesses to enforce protective workplace safety and health standards and provide a safe workplace. So, to let the customer know if the racks are in good condition, we checked and painted the labels on the racks in three colors:
- The green color means that everything is well, the racks are safe, and the company can utilize them without restrictions
- Yellow is a risky color, and it says to us that racks should not be overloaded, and you have to watch out for them permanently
- Red is dangerous and signals to us that racks should be replaced immediately.

Implementation
We checked pallet racking systems in 5 directions using a visual guide. There was an inspection of columns, anchor plates, struts, beams, and frames. All results were noticed in Excel sheets and agreed with the client. One of the main, our safety inspection did not distract the workers from the process; they operated the forklift and performed all necessary activities while we were working. We replaced all the racks with red tags and added new ones. Some of them are now at higher capacity..

Finalization
Besides inspecting the racks, we re-planned the inventory. The main logic we followed was: that instead of increasing the load capacity of the racks, we sorted the stocks according to the rack load. We worked in two teams, ours and the customer’s. By partnering with Speedrack West, the company was so exemplary that we were recommended for work at other company sites.
