How Stacking Racks Work
Each rack assembles using the base and four posts:
- Posts slide into corner sockets,no tools required.
- 4″×4” targets on top of each post align with the rack above.
- 6″×6″ targets on the base align with the posts below.
- Fully assembled racks stack safely 3–5 high and can be lifted as one unit by a forklift.
- When empty, bases nest together to save floor space during low-inventory periods.
This gives you pallet-ready, instantly reconfigurable storage without installing fixed rack systems.

Stacking Rack Posts
Stacking rack posts are the vertical uprights that create usable storage height and enable racks to stack safely. Posts insert directly into the base’s corner sockets and include built-in stacking targets on top.
Available post heights allow you to match product height, forklift clearance, and stack level requirements. Each rack requires four posts of the same height.

Who Uses Stacking Racks
Stack racks are used across dozens of industries, especially when inventory is seasonal, bulky, or changes frequently.
Common use cases:
Automotive & Tires
- Passenger, truck, and OTR tires
- Wheels & rims
- Engines, transmissions, heavy parts
- (Stack racks are the industry standard for tire distribution.)

Manufacturing & Industrial
- WIP items, raw materials, subassemblies
- Heavy components that cannot be stacked on one another

Warehouse & 3PL
- Seasonal peaks
- Overflow SKUs
- Mixed pallets and low-volume items
- Floor-stacked goods that need vertical density

Pipe, Lumber & Long Materials
- When cantilever racking is too expensive or inflexible
- Bundles of pipe, tubing, lumber, bar stock

Beverage, Bottling, Food
- Kegs, crates, cases
- Palletized goods
- Items that need rotation or mobile storage

Bulk Bag / Super Sack Storage
- With optional hooks or side rails
- Common in chemical, plastics, feed, and recycling operations

If you need storage that can expand, collapse, move, or reconfigure quickly, stacking racks are usually the best solution.
Why Warehouses Prefer Stack Racks
- Instant vertical storage — stack 3–5 levels high
- Portable — move full racks with a forklift
- Flexible layout — reconfigure in minutes
- Nesting design — empty bases nest to save floor space
- Zero installation — no anchors, no permits
- Durable steel base — holds 2,000 lbs (default)
- Heavy-duty 4,000 lb version available by request
- Compatible with standard warehouse pallets
Choosing the Right Base Size
All sizes fit standard 40×48 pallets but offer different clearance and footprint options:
- 42″ × 48″ — most common, fits standard pallets with minimal extra footprint
- 48″ × 48″ — adds side-to-side clearance; good for bulk bags, irregular loads
- 42″ × 60″ or 36″ × 60″ — ideal for long products, textile rolls, lumber bundles
- 60″ × 60″ — maximum deck area; great for large items, totes, agricultural goods
If unsure, choose the smallest base that fully supports your pallet or bundle, or contact us for sizing help.
Base Pattern Options
Default base pattern: S-4 (balanced grid)
Other patterns available upon request.
- S-2: Two wide beams — for large, rigid pallets
- S-3: Narrower support spacing — better for moderately sized loads
- S-4 (Default): 4-way balanced grid — ideal for general warehouse pallets
- S-5: Dense grid — for heavy loads, smaller containers, or when adding decking

Targets vs. Caps (What’s Included)
Included with every base:
- 6″×6″ Base Stacking Targets
- Corner Upright Sockets
Included with posts:
- 4″×4″ Upright Targets
Available by request:
- Pyramid Caps
- Flat Caps (used only in specialized non-post or custom stacking configurations.)
Optional Add-Ons (Available by Request)
Most customers only need the base + posts.
If your load requires something unique, these options are available:
Decking Options
Wire mesh — supports totes, cartons, and smaller items

Perforated steel — airflow/drainage for produce, food, cold storage

Solid sheet metal — rigid, heavy-duty flat surface

Plywood — economical deck for dry goods

Plastic decking — lighter alternative for corrosion-sensitive items

Material Handling Enhancements
Fork Tubes — dedicated forklift pockets for 4-way entry or heavier SKUs

Forklift Stirrups — additional pickup points when maneuvering in tight areas

Runners — full-length or partial runners for weight distribution and sliding

Casters — convert a rack into a mobile cart (swivel & locking options)

Containment & Load Control
Side Braces — prevent shifting of tall or soft goods

Side Rails / Panels — create caged sides

Hooks — used for super sacks, bulk bags, slings

End-Frames — structural containment on one or more sides

FAQ
Why would I use this instead of a pallet rack?
The reason why some companies use this instead of a pallet rack is that you can access it from all four sides with a forklift. You can access it from all four sides even if the rack has products on it. Therefore, if it is a high volume item then it can be loaded or unloaded quickly with a forklift.
How much under clearance do these racks have?
The under clearance is 4 1/2″.
How much width do the stack targets have?
The diagrams we have show that they do have a stacking plug.
How do the posts install on the rack?
They snap into the sockets located on the base of the rack. Installation is quick and easy. Please be careful to keep any body parts away from these areas when you install them.
